Ecological Restoration Project

What is Ecological Restoration?
Ecological restoration means “assisting the recovery of an ecosystem that has been degraded, damaged or destroyed”, and I am doing just that at Gilliland Creek. The area around the creek has turned into a monoculture, meaning “of one culture” so it is all Japanese Ligustrum. I have worked with other youth around the area to restore the creek, by pulling up the Ligustrum and planting native trees in their place.
We have planted almost 1000 -- please leave them if you see them - we are replacing alot that are getting pulled out.
This project is funded by Planet Connect and my goal is to bring more native birds back to the creek.
Our mission at Discover Green - Young Environmental Leaders, Inc. is to work with youth dedicated to raise community awareness of environmental issues and encourage teens to take action through environment projects.
