Discover Green - Young Environmental Leaders, Inc.  was born from an extrodinary birthday party in October 2008.  Matthew Evans and 5 friends decided to host a birthday party that was about more than stuff.  This party has been replicated as a Teen Green Party with a Purpose.  For more information on how to replicate -- click here. From 2008- 2009 Discover Green - Young Environmental Leaders, Inc. provided 248 youth with volunteer opportunities.  They performed 1248 service hours, planted over 1300 trees, collected 210 gallons of trash,  removed 1.5 acres of invasive species, planted 200 native plants in community demonstration gardens for wildlife habitats and marked 200 storm drains.  The organization is entirely youth driven and focused on collaboration.  They have collaborated and or trained 4-H clubs, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Boys and Girls Clubs, elementary schools, middle schools and other youth organizations.  The youth also partner with city groups and adult driven nonprofits.  Partnership projects include Neighborwoods with the City of Pflugerville and Tree Folks; Historical garden work with the French Ligation and Keep Austin Beautiful; City of Austin Watershed Protection department; Keep Pflugerville Beautiful - HEB Green Grant recycling program and City of Pflugerville Tree Board and Pflugerville ISD Nature Fest; Lower Colorado River Foundation and Clean Water Day.
