With over a thousand volunteer hours in environmental service projects during the last three years, Sarah Young has committed herself to teaching younger children about the environment and why taking care of it is so important.

In 2009, Sarah was awarded her first environmental service grant. The Forever Green grant was a mini-grant from the Girl Scouts of Central Texas. With that grant she sponsored a 4 1-day camps for younger children pre-k to 1st grade about the environment including 4 different environmental service projects. She also used that grant as leverage to get additional funds from the nonprofit – Discover Green-Young Environmental Leaders. A nonprofit started with the purpose of helping teens find meaningful service projects that they could see the effects later.

As a result of a recent grant from JC Penney’s Cares, Sarah is excited to lead two new projects for Discover Green – Sapling Party with a Purpose for children 4-8 and the Park Appreciation Days.

Thanks to Sarah's foresight and initiative Discover Green has additional Eco--inspiration coaches. Trained in December 2011 -- the additional 35 youth are a great resource.

She is a trained citizen forester and watershed steward. Is currently a founding member of the Green 13, an active 4-H member, Junior Master Gardener and avid reader. She as one of the first six Eco-Inspiration coaches for Discover Green and is working with her older brother took the lead of the organization in August 2011.
